Many of us have had experiences that damaged our feelings of self-worth and value. This could have been from a neglectful caregiver, a bully at school, an abusive partner, or our own negative self-talk. Identifying the source of these issues can be helpful, but does not make them disappear. We can work together to gain insight into the possible origins, identify patterns of behavior that keep us stuck, and stop the irrational and emotionally abusive self-talk.
Most of us experience fear, anxiety and/or depression at times in our lives. My calling to this kind of work arose from personal experiences of severe depression that led me to change the way I looked at life through positive self-talk and other coping skills. I enjoy connecting with others in an intimate way and feeling that both parties have changed in a positive way from the experience. Counseling is a two-way street. Through counseling I can assist in helping you gain insight, perspective, and joy that you want back in your life.
I was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia and grew up in Belpre, Ohio. I graduated with my doctorate in Counselor Education from Ohio University in 2011 and have been a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Ohio since 1997 (#0002989) and in California since 2014 (#922.)
I am the mother of two amazing elementary school age girls and have been happily married for over a decade.
From a therapy perspective, I meet you where you're at and follow your lead- but if I get the feeling you're avoiding what needs to be worked on, I will gently guide you back. Of course this isn't easy work. But I applaud your courage and am in your corner! "The only way out is through" -Robert Frost
While my approach is eclectic, I focus on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) because I believe that a person's thoughts create feelings which then guide their actions. By challenging your thoughts, you can transform your view of the world.
